More information on the welcome party (Sunday afternoon) will appear here in due course.
On Wednesday 11 December, there will be no talks in the afternoon. There will be two or three informal excursions, led by UNSW locals and using public transport. To pay for travel on public transport you will need to tap on and off using a credit or debit card, or an Opal Card. There will be no fee paid in advance for these excursions. Participants joining these excursions will pay for their own refreshments. Everyone taking part in the excursion should bring a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.
Excursion 1: The Coogee to Bondi coastal walk. This is a 6km walk along a cliffside path. We will catch public transport from UNSW to Coogee, walk to Bondi along the path, and then catch public transport back to UNSW via Bondi Junction.
Excursion 2: Manly and North Head. We will catch a bus to Circular Quay and then a ferry to Manly, then walk to Shelly Beach and along the peninsula to North Head, to enjoy great views across Sydney Harbour back to the city. The walk is about 8km. Then we will return to Manly and travel back to UNSW (ferry and bus). If you don't feel like walking, you can stay and explore Manly instead.
Opal Cards: These cards used to be necessary to use public transport in the Sydney area. From September 2019 contactless payment was rolled out, that is you can tap on and off with your American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card. The Opal webpage contains information for traveling contact less and for using the Opal Card in the traditional way.
The conference dinner on Thursday 12 December will be a buffet dinner on a sunset cruise under the Harbour Bridge, past the Opera House and around beautiful Sydney Harbour. The cruise will leave from King Street Wharf in Darling Harbour promptly at 6:45pm, with boarding at 6.30pm, and will return by 10pm. Conference participants will make their own way to the wharf to board the ship. Some UNSW locals will lead groups of people to the conference dinner on public transport: to take up this option you will need a credit card, debit card or Opal Card.
There will be a coach available to help bring some people back to UNSW after the cruise. More details will be made available closer to the time.
One conference dinner ticket is included in each registration.
Only pay for an extra ticket if you want to bring a guest.
