Welcome reception

There will be a welcome reception between 4pm and 6pm on Sunday 8 December, in the School of Mathematics and Statistics common room, level 3 of the Red Centre (centre wing).  The Red Centre is the building labelled H13 on the campus map (PDF), though the entrance to the Centre Wing is a little east from there, say at H14.

Excursion options

On Wednesday 11 December, there will be no talks in the afternoon. There will be two or three informal excursions, led by UNSW locals and using public transport. To pay for travel on public transport you will need to tap on and off using a credit or debit card, or an Opal Card. There will be no fee paid in advance for these excursions. Participants joining these excursions will pay for their own refreshments. Everyone taking part in the excursion should bring a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.

  • Excursion 1 (Coogee to Bondi coastal walk): meet at 12:45 by the fountain outside Colombo Theatre C.
  • Excursion 2 (Manly): meet at 12:45 by the fig trees between the Colombo Theatres and the White House.

Excursion 1: The Coogee to Bondi coastal walk. This is a 6km walk along a cliffside path. We will catch public transport from UNSW to Coogee, walk to Bondi along the path, and then catch public transport back to UNSW via Bondi Junction. More details about Excursion 1 can be found here. The meeting point for this excursion is the fountain outside the Colombo theatres (marked as Goldstein Courtyard at C16 on the campus map).

Excursion 2: Manly. We will catch a bus to Circular Quay and then a ferry to Manly. Possible options include a stroll to Shelly Beach or further to North Head. More details about Excursion 2 can be found here. The meeting point for this excursion is on Fig Tree Lane between the Colombo theatres and the Whitehouse.

NEW!!  INDOOR OPTION:  You can go to the School of Mathematics and Statistics common room RC-3082, on Level 3 of the Red Centre (Centre Wing).  This is the same venue as the Welcome Reception.  If all goes well, some board games should be available. (Please make sure all the pieces go back into the right box!)  The Red Centre is the building labelled H13 on the campus map (PDF), though the entrance to the Centre Wing is a little east from there, say at H14.

There are also two back-to-back Number Theory seminars on Wednesday afternoon: Daniel Altman at 2pm and Tim Trudgian at 3pm, both in RC-4082 in the Red Centre (Centre Wing).

Travelling on public transport: You may travel on an Opal Card, or using your credit card. From September 2019, contactless payment was rolled out: that is, you can tap on and off with your American Express, Mastercard or Visa debit or credit card. The Opal webpage contains information for traveling contactless (with your credit card) and for using an Opal Card. Opal Cards can be purchased from newsagents and some other outlets.

Conference dinner

The conference dinner on Thursday 12 December will be a buffet dinner on a sunset cruise under the Harbour Bridge, past the Opera House and around beautiful Sydney Harbour. The cruise will leave from King Street Wharf (Wharf 6) in Darling Harbour promptly at 6:45pm, with boarding at 6.30pm, and will return by 10pm.

Two coach busses will leave UNSW Gate 14 (Barker Street; N14 on the campus map) at 17:10 and drive them to The Promenade, Lime St, Sydney. At 22:05, the two coaches will return passengers from The Promenade, Lime St, to UNSW and then continue on to Coogee Beach. Conference participants can also make their own way to the wharf to board the ship.

One conference dinner ticket is included in each registration.
Only pay for an extra ticket if you want to bring a guest.
